The Dorm Room Diet Reviewed
The Dorm Room Diet, The Dorm Room Diet Workout, and The Dorm Room Diet Planner were written by Daphne Oz a Princeton University student, and daughter of Mehmet Oz, M.D. who is the author of such books as You: On a Diet, You: The Owner’s Manuel, and You: The Smart Patient.
The Dorm Room Diet is based on the 8-step program for creating a healthy lifestyle plan that really works. The 8 steps are as follows:
- “Step 1 - Get Inspired”
- “Step 2 - Get Informed: The Freshman 15”
- “Step 3 - Get Started: Healthy Eating 101”
- “Step 4 - Get a Grip: Where and How to Eat Responsibly at College”
- “Step 5 - Get Prepared: The Five Danger Zones and How to Survive Them”
- “Step 6 - Get Moving: The Exercise Factor”
- “Step 7 - Get Your Vitamins: Everything You Need to Know About Supplements”
- “Step 8 - Get Happy: A More Relaxed, More Effective You”
The book claims to provide young adults with an easy to follow approach to eating right and staying healthy while out on your own for the first time. The book provides tips on such things as how to stop emotional eating, how to choose vitamins and supplements, how to deal with stress, and how to exercise.
Even though Daphne herself is a vegetarian, she doesn’t ban meat from her diet plan. Daphne lost 10 pounds her first semester away at college by following this plan and is now down about 30 pounds while maintaining and not yo-yoing with her weight. Although this diet is for all young adults it does seem a little more tailored to the female population. It is often reviewed as a fun and easy to understand book. The information in the book is mostly things that we all already know and know to do but it is packaged together well and seems like a great diet program for young adults.
