A New Surgery Which May Help Women Get Pregnant!

PregnantThrough the years, thousands of women have struggled when it comes down to conceiving a child and now new research may change these statistics.  This new weight loss surgery may just be the cure and it sure was for the Turner family.  Brittany Turner had been trying to get pregnant for nearly six years and almost gave up trying.

I had lost hope on getting pregnant,” said Turner. It’s just hard waiting. That’s the hard part.

Brittany got several second opinions, but the doctors all seemed to tell her the same thing.  Weight Loss is the issue here and my recommendation is for you to lose weight.  Losing over a hundred pounds was going to be very hard and stressful, Brittany didn’t know if she could do it.  The doctor’s explained to Brittany that their can be complications with conceiving because of her weight.

Every doctor, that was their first recommendation to me, try losing weight, she said
It makes it harder to get pregnant because your ovary doesn’t function as well. Makes it harder to get pregnant because any medication you take to help you get pregnant doesn’t work as well when you’re obese, said Dr. Tim Norwood.

Statistics show that over 30 percent of reproductive women are over weight.  Out of that 30 percent of women, 40 percent are less likely to conceive.  Those numbers are extremely high.  If women would try harder to lose weight by either having weight loss surgery or making the life changes on their own of being healthy these factors would decrease.
Dr. Tim Norwood is a surgeon and has seen an increase number of women seeking weight loss surgery.  Infertility doctors are recommending Gastric Bypass or the Lap Band for treatment.

Norwood sites, “It does work. But I always warn them not to get pregnant the first 12 to 18 months after surgery. That’s during the rapid weight loss phase. That’s where the nutrition is being affected the most. And as a result I say wait a year and a half, then get pregnant.”

Obese women who have had weight loss surgery and waited a little over a year, have been able to conceive a child, which they were not able to do previously.  Also, studies have also shown that these women have now had healthier babies because of the weight loss.
And for a little hope, Turner was able to get pregnant and gave birth to a little baby girl named Claudia Joy after only one year of having Gastric Bypass surgery

Exciting. My husband actually didn’t believe me when I told him, she said.

So for all you women that are serious about losing weight, here is some insight to what the future may hold for you.
